Snowfall warning for Kootenay Pass
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass with total amounts of 15 to 20 cm expected.
The alert spans from this morning to this afternoon (Dec. 24).
“A strong Pacific low pressure system is expected to bring heavy snow for Highway 3 – Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. The snow is going to start this morning, intensify through today, and tapers off in the late afternoon to early evening,” Environment Canada stated.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.
If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop. The site shiftintowinter.ca reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.
Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
