Soccer continues in the Kootenays at New Dawn Place

November and December (2022) saw a lot of action at New Dawn Place with Adult 7v7, Youth 5v5 and Whitecaps Academy tournaments.

The adult tournament saw a great turnout with six teams registered for the event. Teams came from throughout the Kootenays. With a lot of fast-paced play it was ultimately The Unicorns placing first, defeating The Colonizers in the final game. The consolation final saw Fernie FFFC defeating Mr. Meatsack’s Marvelous 11 to clinch third.

This tournament was the first adult tournament hosted in the indoor facility by the Kootenay Youth Soccer association (KEYSA) and is highly anticipated to become an annual event. If you are looking at getting into soccer this winter season, KEYSA is hosting an adult league from January through March, as well as an adult ladies drop-in Saturday morning soccer. Although registration is now closed, we may still have some room for individuals. Please contact us for more information.

The youth tournament saw 16 teams from various communities in the East Kootenay playing in three different age divisions.

In the U10 to 13 division, the Kootenay Kicks defeated the Game of Throw Ins for first place.

In the U13-U15 division, the Selkirk Storm Troopers from Kimberley took the gold medal, narrowly defeating Fernie United.

In the final age group the U15+, Light Works defeated second place Fortnite Battle.

Due to the success of our first 5v5 tournament, we are excited to announce that we are planning another one for the spring of 2023. Thank you to everyone who made both these tournaments run smoothly.

Online registration for the 2023 soccer season is now open.

Our House program is for players from four to 16, and registration closes March 31, with the hope of being on Moir fields by May 2. The house program runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the end of June.

Please check our website (www.kootenayeastsoccer.com) for specific age group times and to register.

KEYSA also runs a travel program for players interested in more competitive soccer.

Rovers Development (U9 to U12) and Rep (U13-U18) registration closes February 15. Teams are made up based on registration numbers when registration closes, so please make sure to register before the deadline.

Any tryouts needed for the rep program will take place in the last two weeks of February.  KEYSA is dedicated to developing players by using a full-season program (April-Sept), focused on technical skill development and tactical team concepts. It is our goal to help improve players at every stage of their career.

Travel teams participate in a variety of tournaments throughout B.C. and Alberta with the goal of reaching provincials in the beginning of July.  Practice times are set once the teams are made, but will be on Mondays and Wednesdays at Moir, as soon as the fields are open.
