Three new small fires ignited overnight
The thunderheads that rolled through the Cranbrook area last night ignited at least one small wildfire, BC Wildfire Service this morning reported.
A lightning caused fire, at about .01 hectares in size, was ignited north of the Teepee Creek Forest Service Road and about 15 km south of Wardner.
Two other new fires of unknown origin are being reported in the region today (July 8).
A fire is being reported 2.4 km from Skookumchuck in the Lussier River drainage. The cause is this far unknown.
Another .01 fire with an unknown cause is being reported on, perhaps, a small island in Findlay Creek, about 1.3 km from its confluence with the Kootenay River.
The wildfire in the Findlay Creek drainage, now called the Granite Creek fire, located on the edge of the eastern edge of the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy, remains out of control.
Believed to be caused by lighting, the fire discovered July 3 is now estimated at 26 ha, down from 40 ha reported yesterday. It is about 34 km southwest of Canal Flats.
The Carrol Creek fire, just west of Kinbasket Lake, remains out of control at 98 ha.
The Moyie River/Lumberton fire, southwest of Cranbrook is still under control at 29 ha. The fire was discovered July 2.
The Bear Creek fire, on the west side of Kootenay River, west of Windermere, is still being held at 1.5 ha. The lightning caused fire was discovered July 2.
The lightning caused Dry Creek North fire, at five ha, is under control. The fire is located on the east side of the Fairmont Range southeast of Fairmont Hot Springs.
