United Way appeals for funding support
United Way East Kootenay is making an appeal to raise urgently needed dollars for the community.
How your generosity makes a difference every single day?
Our United Way invests in services that meet the urgent needs of our communities, within our focus areas of children, community and poverty.
We do not receive government or United Way Canada funding to do this good work but rely solely on the generosity of donors. “Money raised here, stays here, improving lives locally.”
United Way sees the needs increasing and larger numbers of donors are required to help meet urgent social needs. We are also able to go beyond helping one person at a time by tackling with our non-profit partners, the root causes of many social issues. Your donation to United Way supports the combined efforts of a network of programs that provide wide-ranging care for individuals and families in need and helps establish longer-term solutions for local issues. With a personal donation to United Way, you are making an investment that will bring hope, change lives and build futures.
Your gift enables United Way to invest in programs, services and initiatives that work together to address social issues in the East Kootenay.
In 2018, 12 agencies received United Way funding. This was down from 2017 due to a decrease in donations.
In addition, funds were directed to bc211 a 24/7 province-wide online information/referral service accessible by computer or mobile device. Supports directed to our Success by Six initiative, help children age up to age six in eight East Kootenay communities including the Ktunaxa Nation.
As well, United Way supports the Better at Home initiative, helping seniors remain in their home longer. If you would like more information, please contact our office or the agency office directly. More information is available on our website www.ourunitedway.ca and please follow our Facebook page.
The needs are great and that is why we are looking to caring people like you, to help us ‘Make a Difference.’
As we receive no government funding your donation big or small, is crucial. Possibility – With every household making a $20 donation once a year to United Way, community investments would become stabilized and everyone needing help would receive help. Our operational costs remain low with the generosity of local supporters and volunteers allowing 80% of donated dollars for investment in community programs.
By supporting your United Way, we all benefit. Please make your donation today.
