Volunteers needed for upcoming Gran Fondo
The ninth annual Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo is taking place September 7.
The Rotary Club of Cranbrook Sunrise event is the largest fondo in the region and raises funds for local causes.
“Our purpose is to serve as an opportunity for cyclists to participate in a world class Fondo, bring tourists to our region, and raise funds for local charitable endeavours,” the Rotary Club explains.
Beginning and ending at St. Eugene Golf Resort and Casino, the fondo features three races – the gran (152 km), medio (102 km) and piccolo (58 km) and as a result a small army of volunteers are required to stage the race.
Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo organizing committee reports it is excited to be back and planning for this awesome event.
Registration is well underway and significant numbers of cyclists are already registered.
“In large part, the success of the Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo is due to the efforts of our volunteer Fondo Force,” said Volunteer Coordinator Penny Coyle.
“Feedback from participants was unanimous in praise of the support offered before, during, and following the event.”
With that in mind, Coyle encourages past volunteers, as well as new ones, to sign up again this year.
“The process this year is very easy. We have room for only 125 volunteers and our Aid Station and First Aid partners account for 55 of those spots,” Coyle said.
Register now to make sure you are a member of the Fondo Force.
Please make sure you check if you are a part of a club affiliation, if not chose none of the above from that category.
As in previous years, all volunteers will be supplied with a volunteer t-shirt, invited to a Volunteer Rally and Volunteer Appreciation all on Thursday, September 5, at 7 p.m. in the St. Eugene Pavilion.
