Winter conditions persist on regional highways

Highway 3A at Sanca Creek.

If you have travel Highway 3 today, be aware that the highway is currently closed in Kootenay Pass for avalanche control.

DriveBC reports avalanche control work is underway between West Avalanche Gate and East Avalanche Gate for 15.7 km (Kootenay Pass).

The road is currently closed and will be until at least noon.

An alternate route available from Nelson to Creston; Highway 3A, Kootenay Lake Ferry, estimated travel time 2.5 hours. Highway 3A is currently snow-covered with slippery and slushy sections.

Highway 95A at Kimberley

Elsewhere in the region highways are under mostly wintery conditions, including warnings of black ice from Cranbrook to Kimberley and through to Ta Ta Creek on Highway 95A. Black ice is also being reported on Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park, along Highway 3 between Elko and the Alberta border, on Highway 43 between Elkford and Sparwood and on Highway 93 from Highway 3 to the Montana border.

Compact snow is noted on Highway 93/95 from Wasa to Radium Hot Springs, and from Radium to Golden along Highway 95.
