Applications open for Elk Valley OCP Advisory Committee
With the Elk Valley Official Community Plan (OCP) process underway, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is in the process of establishing an Advisory Group to help guide the process.
“We are now taking applications for the Elk Valley OCP Advisory Group,” said RDEK Planner II Justin Cook. “The Advisory Group will play a key role in the development of the OCP and zoning bylaw by acting in an advisory capacity, providing feedback on the policies and regulations at various stages of the planning process, and participating in the additional public engagement activities that will be offered throughout the coming months.”
A series of separate Advisory group meetings will be held with the committee once it has been formally established.
The Advisory Group will be comprised of individuals who represent a broad range of local interests within the plan boundary area and the Terms of Reference and application form are available on the Elk Valley OCP project page.
The deadline to apply is January 11, 2025.
“By joining the Advisory Group, you will have the opportunity to share your perspective and vision for the future of Electoral Area A,” added Cook. “Having a strong and engaged group, along with robust public engagement throughout the process will help ensure the final OCP and zoning bylaw reflects the community’s vision for its future.”
The Elk Valley OCP process is anticipated to take 18-24 months to complete. While it is just getting fully underway, the RDEK has completed an initial public survey and the survey summary has been posted on the OCP project page.
Official community plans are long-range planning policy documents that set community direction to guide future development.
The Elk Valley Official Community Plan will guide growth and change over the next 15 to 20 years to approximately 2045.
