Theft from Elkford apartment
On June 1 at 4:16 p.m., Elk Valley Regional RCMP responded to a report of a theft from the apartment building located in the 800 block of Michel Road in Elkford.
An officer attended and the complainant provided photos of the truck and youths involved. The complainant reiterated he just wanted the cigarette disposal units back. The officer, who recognized the person(s) and vehicle in the photos from past dealings, contacted the parents of the youths involved and two of the containers were returned by morning.
The third container is still outstanding. If anyone is aware of the location or those responsible for the theft, please contact the Elk Valley Regional RCMP at 250-425-6233 to speak with an officer. Please refer to file 2024-1548. Our investigation is ongoing pending further information being developed.
Cranbrook male arrested in Sparwood for theft of car from Pincher Creek
On June 2, at approximately 8:21 p.m., Elk Valley RCMP was on patrol in Sparwood when an officer observed an empty Chevy Geo parked at the gas station located at 100 block of Aspen Drive. The officer completed checks on the vehicle and determined it was stolen out of Pincher Creek, Alberta.
While the officer waited for other officers to assist with setting up on the vehicle to determine if a driver returned to it, a 31-year-old male resident of Cranbrook – was seen walking back and getting into the vehicle. At that point, the officer safely arrested the male suspect without incident.
The man, who was determined to have no criminal record and had minimal history with police, was released on an Appearance Notice to attend Provincial Court in Fernie on July 18. The vehicle was seized for safe keeping. File 2024-1555 refers. Our investigation is ongoing.
Man charged with impaired driving after crashing into Elk River near Elkford
On June 2 at approximately 9:45 p.m., Elk Valley RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle accident about 1.5 km north of Elkford along Highway 43.
A 32-year-old male Elkford resident reported the incident, stating he had been driving the brand new 2024 Ford F150 when it left the highway and entered the Elk River. The man reported he was not injured and he was alone in the vehicle. The officers arrived on scene and noted the man had an odour of liquor coming from his breath while speaking. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was produced and a fail sample was provided. The officer arrested the man for impaired driving, then completed checks on his driving and criminal history. Finding no previous impaired convictions or files, the officer decided to proceed by way of the Immediate Roadside Prohibition.
The driver was offered a second ASD for which to provide a second sample as per the legislation and another fail was produced. The vehicle was removed from the river and impounded for 30 days, while the driver was served paperwork for a 90-day removal of his BC driver’s licence. File 2024-1556 refers, our investigation is concluded.
