The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the February 11 District of Elkford council meeting.
Teck presents its Draft Development Permit Application for temporary workplace accommodations site
Representatives from Teck presented the company’s Draft Development Permit Application for its temporary workforce accommodations site and solicited feedback from council that will be used in the finalization of the application. Prior to submitting the application, Teck will also solicit feedback from the Citizens’ Advisory Committee. The Development Permit Application will be considered by Council at the February 25 regular council meeting.
SYS.tem Youth Action Network reports a successful 2018
Karen Mills, Youth Action Network Coordinator, and eight youth members outlined the group’s key activities and projects over the past year, highlighting a variety of successful projects and events, including: First Aid Training Program, participation in the Junior First Aid Competition at the East Kootenay Mine Rescue Competition, Halloween Haunted House event, and partnerships with the Elkford Public Library and Cook’s Catering for youth initiatives.
The group indicated that 2019 projects and activities will include the enhancement and continuation of all the 2018 activities and programs, as well as some new and exciting initiatives.
District of Elkford Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 817, 2019 received its first two readings. The purpose of this bylaw is to amend the District of Elkford Zoning Bylaw No. 737, 2013 to allow for the keeping of horses on any property larger than one acre in the Urban Reserve Zone.
A public hearing is scheduled for March 11 at 6 p.m. Following the hearing, during the regular council meeting, council will consider the third reading and adoption of the bylaw.
