Tangled deer freed by officers
The B.C. Conservation Officer Service, with the assistance of the District of Elkford’s Bylaw Officer, responded to concerns reported about a deer that had wire leash entangled in its antlers and a carabiner stuck through his foot.
They were able to locate the deer and successfully remove the wire leash and the carabiner and have reported that the deer is not injured.
Let’s all take a moment to think about how we can help keep local wildlife safe and help to prevent instances like this in the future:
– Look around your yard and ensure that items that are hazardous to animals are cleaned up or stored.
– Pick up and dispose of debris/materials that you spot while you are out enjoying our mountainous surroundings.
– Ensure to report any injured or compromised wildlife to the RAPP Hotline at 1-877-952-7277. The RAPP Hotline is a confidential, toll-free tip line offered by the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.
Thank you to the B.C. Conservation Officer and our Bylaw Officer for their quick action in addressing the situation this morning (Oct. 16).
