Ember Stomp returns to Jaffray this month
The East Kootenay FireSmart Program will be hosting the second annual ‘Ember Stomp’ Wildfire Preparedness Event on April 25.
“We are inviting all residents to take part in Ember Stomp this year and learn what they can do to help themselves, their neighbours, and their communities be prepared in case of wildfire,” said Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Wildfire Resiliency Supervisor Terry Balan.
“The day is going to be filled with activities, including a live fire demonstration from our Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire and Rescue Service, and educational presentations. Bring the kids to check out the wildland firefighting apparatus, play games, meet Ember the FireSmart Fox, and learn more about wildfire preparedness.”
The event will be held at the Jaffray Community Hall (7369 Jaffray Village Loop Rd) on April 25 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
The services in attendance include the East Kootenay FireSmart Program, FireSmart BC, BC Parks, BC Wildfire Service – Initial Attack and Cultural and Prescribed Fire, Living Lakes Canada, BC Ministry of Forests – Wildfire Risk Reduction and Range, East Kootenay Invasive Species Council, Western Painted Turtle Recovery Team, Kootenay Landscaping, Fernie Garden Centre, the Kootenay Livestock Association, C.L.E.A.R. Society, GFL, Casey’s Flashing and Roofing, and Fernie Home Hardware Building Centre.
A concession will be available for lunch brought to you by the Jaffray Community Club and the Sand Creek Lions Club.
“We are grateful to all of our participating partners who are giving so generously of their time and resources to ensure that residents have an opportunity to learn how they can protect themselves and their properties,” added Balan.
The Ember Stomp will take place ahead of Wildfire Preparedness Day, which is held the first Saturday in May.
