Two local organizations recently received $5,586 to further the great work they are doing in the Elk Valley after 100 Women Who Care Fernie (100WWCFernie) came together for their second 2022 Giving Event on November 3.

The group is collectively donating a total of $11,172 and through a member nomination and voting process, selected two local organizations to share the funds – Caregivers Network for East Kootenay Seniors and Fernie Child Care Society.

This sold-out event was the first in-person event since the organizations virtual launch in Dec. 2020.  Local businesses SOAR Studios, The Castle on 1st,  Fernie Catering Co., Patti’s Party Tent Rentals and Mckenzie Jespersen Photography graciously supported the event, making it a night to remember.

“The generous donation from 100 Women Who Care Fernie will go towards quality books, classroom materials for diverse needs, developmentally appropriate educational resources and upgrading our outdoor learning space,” said Karen Tse, President of Fernie Child Care Society.

Since the inaugural event in December 2020, members of the organization have come together for five Giving Events and have donated $48,772.00 and supported 11 local organizations.

“The funds received from 100 Women Who Care Fernie will be used to create and distribute 200 Caregiver Wellness kits in the Elk Valley, from Elkford to South Country,” said Marianne Agnew, Elk Valley Facilitator, Caregivers Network for East Kootenay Seniors.

Members of 100 Women Who Care Fernie meet twice a year to open their hearts and their cheque books to support local grassroots organizations delivering valuable services and support to those living in the Elk Valley.

Registration is open for the first Giving Event of 2023, scheduled for Thursday, June 1, 2023.  To learn more about the organization go to  www.100wwcfernie.ca or to join email [email protected].
