A peek at Griz Days 2019

Despite frostbite potential cold Fernie was one fun place last weekend (March 1-3) during the annual Griz Days celebrations.

Parade participation and those watching numbers were likely down thanks to the Arctic front that lingered over much of the region, but spirits were high and smiles a-plenty.

The following is a small peek at Griz Days 2019.

Afraid we opted to shoot the Chicken Wing eating contest over the Xtreme Griz for the simple fact it was waaaaay warmer in the Fernie Hotel than Rotary Park, where hardy souls vied for the coveted Xtreme Griz title.

We also watched the 9 p.m. fireworks display from the comfort of our balcony at Park Place Lodge (hence the power lines and trees in the way), while many sturdier sorts took part in the fun in Station Square.

While it was a cold weekend for Fernie’s annual party, it was also stunningly beautiful with deep blue skies framing shimmering Rocky Mountain peaks.

Kudos to the volunteers and businesses involved in making this annual event such a treat to attend and cover.
