Ange Qualizza is Fernie’s new Mayor
The City of Fernie has a new Mayor following the Oct. 20 civic election.
City Coun. Ange Qualizza captured 1,122 votes to incumbent Mayor Mary Giuliano’s 477 to unseat the two-term mayor.
Sharon Switzer received 893 votes.
Fernie will also have four new city councillors.
Kyle Hamilton garnered 1,239 votes, with Morgan Pulsifer (1,166), Yvonne Marie Prest (1,157) and Troy Nixon (1,061) will join council along with incumbents Kevin McIsaac (1,179 votes) and Phil Iddon (991).
Incumbent councillors Joe Warshawsky (953) and Dan McSkimming (893) were defeated, along with challengers Greg Barnes (886), Steve Kallies (822), Tracey Kelly (943) and Scott Newland (336).
