Biennial Mine Rescue Competition Sept. 5-7

The City of Fernie is pleased to host the 14th Biennial National Western Regional Mine Rescue Competition September 5-7.

The city has been hosting the National Western Regional Mine Rescue competition since 1993.

This National Mine Rescue Competition showcases the vast knowledge, training, commitment, and professionalism that mining emergency response and rescue teams dedicate themselves to keeping their mines and co-workers as safe as possible, every day. Championship Surface and Underground teams from across Canada and the United States will compete in seven categories that simulate potential mining accidents and scenarios that require Mine Rescue Teams to respond to.

The city invites the public to come and show support for the mine rescue emergency response teams by spectating at the competitions over the weekend. You can come and watch the simulated Underground tasks at the Fernie Curling Club Friday, September 6, and the Surface competition at the Fernie Aquatic Centre grounds Saturday, Sept. 7.

Come show your support and enjoy food trucks, entertainment for children, trade show vendors and gain an insight into the intensity of emergency response scenarios and all it entails from the mine rescue teams.

The 2019 National Western Regional Mine Rescue Competition Tradeshow will be located at the Fernie Community Centre (902 Highway 3) on Thursday, September 5 from 5-8 p.m.

The City of Fernie invites businesses to demonstrate support and dedication of all those involved in emergency response and mine rescue, by providing a level of sponsorship and/or donation of products or services.

Sponsorship will reach a vast audience of miners, industrial companies and businesses, emergency response corporations and service providers, as well as other stakeholders, families and friends of mine rescue.
