Big Sugar playing The Northern April 17
One of Canada’s finest blues-rock bands is coming to Fernie on April 17.
Now performing as a power trio, including frontman Gordie Johnson (lead guitar and vocals), Big Sugar is on the ‘500 Pounds Theatre Tour’ through 2024, which sees the entire album played live in the first set followed by hits and favourites in the second set.
The White Stripes’ guitarist and vocalist Jack White has stated 1993’s Five Hundred Pounds is “the best blues-based record to ever come out of Canada.”
The love for this legendary band and Gordie Johnson doesn’t stop there, with other legends sharing their thoughts.
ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons said Gordie Johnson could have written ‘I’m Bad, I’m Nation Wide,’ while the great Warren Haynes said, “from a creative standpoint, he is one of the best I have ever worked with.”
Master player Joe Satriani stated: “when he picks up a six string and plugs it in, he makes a kind of magic.”
And lucky for East Kootenay music fans, the tour is stopping for an intimate soiree at Fernie’s The Northern Pub on Wednesday, April, 17.
Tickets are now on sale. Contact The Northern for more information.
