Community successes celebrated
2017 Business Excellence Award Winners
On the evening of October 24, 150 business owners and their teams and community leaders gathered to celebrate excellence in Fernie as the Fernie Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the 2017 Community and Business Excellence awards.
Fourteen awards were handed out to individuals and businesses.
Guests heard from author and speaker Dan Pontefract. Dan spoke to the full house audience about aligning three crucial areas of purpose: personal, organizational, and workplace role. And that an organization centered on purpose will benefit every stakeholder from employee to society.
The evening ended with presentation of the awards. And the winners are:

New Business of the Year – Coal Town Goods – Sponsored by FAR Summit Fund.
Entrepreneur of the Year – Ryan Doehle – Sponsored by Community Futures East Kootenay.
Team of the Year – Tanglefoot Veterinary Clinic – Sponsored by EK Employment.
Employer of the Year – Super 8 Fernie – Sponsored by College of the Rockies.
Fernie Business of the Year – Three Sisters Day Spa – Sponsored by CanAus Coal Ltd and Trucut Ltd.
Chamber Business Excellence Award – Super 8 Fernie – Sponsored by Fernie Chamber of Commerce.
Peoples’ Choice Award – Kettle Black Bartending – Sponsored by Rockies Law Corp.
Community Leadership Award – Park Place Lodge – Sponsored by Best Western Plus Fernie Mountain Lodge.
The Chamber Legacy Award was also awarded on Tuesday night.
This award recipient is selected by the chamber board of director to recognize individual(s), or a business, who have made an impact on the community over a 10-year or more period.
This year the award was presented to Randy and Patti Cameron (pictured above) who have been operating businesses in Fernie for over 20 years and approach all projects and jobs with a can-do attitude. This couple is known for giving back to the community through volunteer hours and donation of services.
