COTR Fernie campus welcomes new manager

Tim Shoahs brings 18 years of post-secondary experience

College of the Rockies is delighted to announce the appointment of Tim Shoahs as the new manager of its Fernie campus. With 18 years of post-secondary experience, Shoahs brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this pivotal role.

“We’re delighted to welcome Tim to our team at College of the Rockies,” said Robin Hicks, Vice President Academic. “Tim has the depth and breadth of experience, along with a community-minded spirit, which make him a great fit for this critical role as the campus manager in Fernie.”

Coming from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Shoahs’ extensive background in various roles, including student services, registrar functions, recruiting, and operational management, uniquely positions him for success. His experience in the tourism industry will serve him well in his new location.

Shoahs is coming to Fernie from Squamish. His familiarity with the Fernie community and excitement about relocating to the Elk Valley underscore his commitment to the role. Downhill skiing, a passion of his, will undoubtedly be a highlight of his time in the Elk Valley.

Impressed by the college’s strong reputation as a centre of learning and an active community member, Shoahs looks forward to contributing to the college’s mission and engaging with students, faculty, and the broader community.

“I am very excited to join the team at College of the Rockies; an institution that has such a great reputation both as a centre of learning and as a community member,” Shoahs said. “I am also psyched to get back into downhill skiing! I’ve been warned about the cold but hopefully growing up in Northern Ontario has prepared me for Fernie winters!”

Shoahs will succeed retiring manager Anita Palmer, who has dedicated 32 years to the college, including 12 years as campus manager.

“We are thankful for Anita’s leadership and her passion for the community. She will be missed, but we wish her well on her well-deserved retirement and we know that Tim will carry on her good work,” said Hicks.

Shoahs assumes his responsibilities on July 16, with Palmer providing support during the transition. Her official retirement date is August 31.
