Dog picks up nail spiked apple in James White Park
On Sunday November 3, the BC Conservation office was contacted via email by a complainant in Fernie that noted while playing disc golf at James White Park, their dog had found a discarded apple and started to eat it.
The dog owners saw something strange with the apple and so had the dog drop the fruit, whereupon it was discovered the apple was spiked with two large nails forced into it.
The complainant then contacted the BC Conservation Service via email. The BC Conservation office forwarded this email onto the Elk Valley Regional RCMP on Monday morning to investigate as this is a Criminal Code investigation involving to cruelty to animals.
Elk Valley Regional RCMP also noted several social media posts regarding this event on Monday morning and also that a message had been sent directly to the Elk Valley RCMP account.
An officer attended immediately to the disc golf course and did not find any evidence related to this offence. The officer responded back to the message and also posted on social media that police were aware of the event and were investigating. Attempts to contact the original complainant from the BC Conservation office have went unanswered thus far, reported S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
“No animal deserves to be harmed in this manner.”
