Fernie activates city-wide water conservation measures

The City of Fernie announced today it is activating city-wide water conservation measures to minimize water wastage and preserve capacity at the James White Wells.

Due to high seasonal water levels causing turbidity at the Fairy Creek primary source, the city has switched to our temporary secondary source wells at James White.

Commercial and residential lawn watering is the largest source of water waste, and the city is asking residents to help conserve water by adhering to the following conservation measures until further notice:

  • Odd-numbered address may water on odd-numbered calendar days;
  • Even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered calendar days;
  • Water only between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.;
  • Water for no more than one hour in duration.

The City of Fernie is committed to ensuring our water resources are protected and sustainable for future generations.

Please be mindful of water use and conserve wherever possible.
