Big shoutout to members of the Fernie Fire and Emergency Services department who are supporting BC Wildfire Service defending communities near Argenta at Kootenay Lake from wildfires.

With the increase in wildfire activity in recent years FFESD made the decision last winter to train firefighters over the spring for this type of deployment, and also reconfigured an old rescue truck as a wildland response truck.

A crew of three firefighters was deployed yesterday to support the firefighting efforts. Our gratitude to our City of Fernie crew and all the other firefighters working tirelessly to protect impact communities.

We’re grateful to have the resources to commit to supporting other communities, while ensuring we are still prepared and able to respond to any incident locally.
