Fernie hotel donates to ERA summer camp programs
The Fernie Fox Hotel has made a significant contribution towards the Elk River Alliance’s (ERA) 2023 summer camp program for kids.
The hotel, which has a history of supporting community programs, has provided a $5,000 donation to the Elk River Discovery Camp.
The Camp is a week-long summer day camp in Fernie for youth aged seven to 14 that focuses on developing outdoor skills (five sessions throughout July and August 2022), with an emphasis on environmental stewardship, learning about the natural environment and water safety. The past two years have also included a Ktunaxa perspectives component delivered by a Ktunaxa/Tobacco Plains knowledge holder.
“This donation will fill a key role in ensuring we are able to continue to offer the Discovery Kids camps to youth from up and down the Elk Valley next summer,” said Elk River Alliance Executive Director, Chad Hughes. “Teaching kids about water safety, and environmental stewardship are skills that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.”
“Environmental stewardship is a key corporate value, as is supporting youth in their education and lifelong learning,” said Jeremiah and Marina Pauw, owners of the Fernie Fox Hotel
Since its inception in 2020, the hotel has made a number of other donations, including scholarships for employees and their families, the Fernie Dog Park, the Elk Valley Hospital and numerous youth sports groups. The Fernie Fox Hotel also sponsors the Fernie Snowmobile Association, Fernie Ghostriders Hockey and the Fernie Chamber of Commerce.
The Fernie Fox Hotel’s Community Appreciation Initiative falls under the hotel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, which also includes its Sustainability Initiative.
