Free summer shuttle in Fernie starts June 28
A hop-on hop-off experience; new evening service addition.
Tourism Fernie is funding a second summer season of the Ferniestoke Summer Shuttle service, including day and evening, from June 28 to September 1with support from the City of Fernie’s Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) tourism program.
This free shuttle service is available to both visitors and residents Wednesdays thru Sundays connecting town and accommodations with multiple locations and attractions including Mt. Fernie Provincial Park, the Visitor Centre and Fairy Creek Falls Trailhead, Fernie Alpine Resort and more.
Riders are encouraged to utilize the shuttle to transport between route stops but also like a Hop-On Hop-Off experience to explore Fernie and area with friendly and knowledgeable drivers from Tunnel49.
The Hop-On Hop-Off concept allows passengers to board the bus at any designated stop, and have the freedom to hop off at various points of interest along the route including shops, cafes and the Museum in Historic Downtown, a scenic chair ride at Fernie Alpine Resort, a family friendly hike to Fairy Creek Falls or in Mt. Fernie Provincial Park, and more. Once you’re done exploring, simply hop back on the bus at the scheduled stops and times to continue your journey or end the day.
New this summer will be the addition of an evening service encouraging exploration of the town, attractions, and dining locations between 5 – 11 p.m. This new evening route and schedule also provides an option for riders to enjoy local restaurants and pubs with a safe ride back.
The service operates on a first-come, first-served basis with limited seating. Its goal is to ease parking congestion, decrease vehicle emissions by providing an alternative to driving, promote job creation and local businesses, and enhance the visitor experience. Due to limited seating groups over six are encouraged to pre-book a taxi or private charter from Tunnel49 as seats on the free shuttle can’t be guaranteed.

Tourism Fernie is a community non-profit organization with the purpose of executing effective tourism marketing, programs and projects that sustainably increase and manage local tourism revenue, visitation, and economic benefits for Fernie and surrounding area.
The summer shuttle program is a partnership between Tourism Fernie, Tunnel49 and the City of Fernie.
The #FernieStoke Shuttle buses are owned by the City of Fernie and were purchased in 2022 through tourism funding from the provincial Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) program. The summer service is operationally paid for by Tourism Fernie who contracts Tunnel49 to operate the scheduled route. The pilot project will continue to test demand and interest for future planning and services, while also providing important data for future public transportation initiatives by the city.
