Ghostriders’ captain Haggerty commits to Drury University
Fernie Ghostriders captain and Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) standout Taylor Haggerty has committed to play for the Drury University Panthers in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) beginning this fall.
Haggerty wrapped up his third and final season in the KIJHL on a high note, leading the Ghostriders with 63 points in 43 regular season games. His offensive output placed him third overall in league scoring. Over his 130-game KIJHL career, Haggerty notched an impressive 166 points, averaging well over a point per game.
“The Ghostriders helped me mature into a young adult and taught me a lot of life lessons throughout my time here,” said Haggerty. “My teammates and coaches pushed me to my limits and demanded the best from me every day, which greatly contributed to earning this opportunity.”
The Sherwood Park, Alta., native expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his junior hockey journey in Fernie. He also reflected on his growth as a player, having transitioned from center to wing while continuing to refine his game and improve his shot.
“I cannot wait for new opportunities and experiences attending Drury University,” said Haggerty.
Ghostriders head coach and general manager Chad Scharff praised Haggerty’s contributions and leadership both on and off the ice.
“Taylor is an unbelievable talent and was a true leader of our program,” said Scharff. “Our organization is very proud of all Taylor’s accomplishments. We wish Taylor and his family continued success with the Drury Panthers.”
Drury University is located in Springfield, Missouri.
