Ghostriders hold steady in KIJHL power rankings

For the second straight week, the Fernie Ghostriders are ranked second overall in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s (KIJHL) power rankings.

The KIJHL Power Rankings highlights the top-five teams based on their performance over the past 10 games, including winning percentage.

Beaver Valley Nitehawks

Last Week: 1 – Record: 28-8-0-1

The Nitehawks are on a 14-game winning streak and added to it with victories over Grand Forks (7-5), Castlegar (3-2) and Sicamous (4-1). In the three games their power-play went 3-for-15, while the penalty-kill was 11-for-12.

Fernie Ghostriders

Last Week: 2 – Record: 26-8-3-1

The Ghostriders defeated the Columbia Valley Rockies 3-2 and the Golden Rockets 4-0. Their power-play went 0-for-10 and the penalty-kill went 6-for-6.

Grand Forks Border Bruins

Last Week: Honourable mention – Record: 23-10-2-2

The Border Bruins lost to the Nitehawks 7-5 and defeated the Creston Valley Thunder Cats 7-3. Their power-play went 5-for-8 – 4-for-5 against the Thunder Cats – and the penalty-kill went 9-for-11.

Princeton Posse

Last Week: Not ranked – Record: 28-8-0-1

The Posse defeated the Osoyoos Coyotes 7-2 and the Kelowna Chiefs 8-0. The power-play went 2-for-10 and the penalty-kill 10-for-10.

Kamloops Storm

Last Week: 4 – Record: 27-10-0-1

The Storm defeated the Revelstoke Grizzlies 3-1, then split a two-game set with North Okanagan winning the first 5-1 and losing the second game 3-2. The power-play went 2-for-7 and the penalty-kill 8-for-8.
