Ghostriders’ Sinclair among KIJHL’s January 3 Stars
Scott Sinclair (Fernie Ghostriders), Ethan McKinley (Osoyoos Coyotes) and Owen Albers (Revelstoke Grizzlies) have been selected the Instat KIJHL (Kootenay International Junior Hockey League) for January.
Scott Sinclair – Top Defenceman
The Fort McMurray, Alberta product had four goals and eight assists in nine games for the Ghostriders and helped his team win seven of its nine games. Sinclair scored the winner against Creston Valley in a 5-2 final on Jan. 28 and added an assist. Sinclair enjoyed three multi-point performances, including a four-point night against the Chase Heat in a 12-1 win. Sinclair also had two assists against the Golden Rockets in their 3-0 win on Jan. 14. Sinclair is fourth on the Ghostriders with 33 points in 42 games and he ranks fifth among all KIJHL defencemen in points. Sinclair has been named the Top Defenceman for the Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week twice.
Ethan McKinley – Top Forward
The St. Albert, Alberta product racked up 10 goals and 12 assists in 10 games for the Coyotes. McKinley helped the Coyotes win seven of their 10 games and netted the winning goal against Grand Forks in a 2-1 final on Jan. 7. McKinley also scored two insurance goals, the first in a 4-2 win over Columbia Valley on Jan. 14 and then a week later against the Summerland Steam in a 5-0 final. McKinley leads the Coyotes with 33 goals and 72 points in 43 games, which also ranks him third in the KIJHL.
Owen Albers – Top Goalie
The Calgary, Albert product won five of his six games for the Grizzlies as he turned aside 152 of 161 shots for a 1.62 GAA and a .944 SP. Albers began the month with a 26-save performance against the North Okanagan Knights in a 5-1 win. The 6-7, 188-pound goalie had a second 26-save performance, this time in a 4-1 win over the Kamloops Storm. Albers defeated 100 Mile House twice, and his other victory came against Chase.
Albers was selected the Top Goalie for the Instat KIJHL 3 Stars of the Week for Oct. 2. In 19 games, Albers has 14 wins with a 1.92 GAA and a .925 SP. Albers is eighth in wins and SP, and No. 1 in GAA. His four shutouts are third best in the KIJHL, behind his teammate Jozef Kuchaslo who is tied for the league lead with five.
