Mayor Qualizza acclaimed 1st VP of UBCM
The Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) wrapped up its 119th convention today by installing its executive for the upcoming year and City of Fernie Mayor Ange Qualizza has been acclaimed as first vice president.
Qualizza (pictured) served as second vice president for the past year.
Councillor Jen Ford of the Resort Municipality of Whistler has been acclaimed UBCM president and was officially installed this morning after serving the past year as first vice president.
Councillor Claire Moglove of the City of Campbell River has been acclaimed second vice president after serving as third vice president for the past year.
And Councillor Trish Mandewo of the City of Coquitlam was elected third vice president during this yearâs convention.
âBeing able to return to our familiar in-person convention format this year has allowed our delegates to meet face-to-face for the first time in three years and reestablish connections sorely missed during the COVID-19 pandemic,â said president Ford.
âWith crucial issues facing all British Columbians from housing, floods, and wildfires to healthcare, mental health, the overdose crisis, policing and more, I believe the discussions at this yearâs convention have positioned us well to take on these challenges in the coming year. And, with this being an election year, I look forward to working with both returning, and new UBCM members from across the province after the vote.â
