Non-fruit bearing trees planted in historic downtown
City of Fernie crews last year removed fruit trees in the historic downtown area following recommendations by Wildsafe BC and local wildlife experts to reduce the number of animal attractants in Fernie.
Thanks to BC Hydro’s Community Re-greening Program grant, these fruit trees have now been replaced with 10 deciduous non-fruit bearing trees.
You’ll find the new trees on 7th Street between 1st Avenue & 2nd Avenue, and the intersection of 6th Street at 2nd Avenue.
Fernie is a hotspot for human-wildlife conflicts. Learn how you can reduce attractants on your property with helpful tips from WildSafeBC Elk Valley.
