The City of Fernie is asking residents and visitors to not overload garbage collections bins in the town, pointing out its creates wildlife attractants.

“Unfortunately, we are still seeing overflowing collection bins throughout the community. Please be reminded that placing your garbage outside of the collection bins, if full, can be dangerous! Garbage and debris are wildlife attractants,” the city noted on social media.

The City of Fernie has community bins around town (Fernie Aquatic Centre, Memorial Arena, Max Turyk and City Hall) for residents to use and weekly household waste and recycling collection.

You may also dispose of your waste at the Transfer Station located at 9701 Highway 3.

If a bin is full, please proceed to the next location or take your waste to the transfer station.

“City crews have been out cleaning waste and debris that has been left behind. We please ask that you help us keep the community clean and safe by disposing of waste responsibly,” the city outlined.

If you see an overflowing bin, please contact the city using the online Request for Service.
