Police searching for suspect after store broken into

On July 4 at approximately 2:56 a.m., GearHub Sports located at 401 1st Avenue in Fernie, was broken into by a lone suspect.

The suspect is described as a possible Caucasian man wearing dark clothing, carrying a hammer at the time of the offence. The suspect approached the front of the business, broke a large exterior window with the hammer, stole several items and was seen leaving in a dark coloured newer style Dodge van.

The suspect took very specific items related to bicycle parts, with the cost of the parts and  broken window being over $5,000. A video canvas of the neighbourhood located some images of the suspect and vehicle (See attached photos).

Further images of the vehicle show it to have black spoke hubcaps and there appears to be a white card of some sort in the front window of the vehicle.

The  suspect is carrying what is believed to be a claw hammer and wearing a dark hoodie with a possible mask or something covering their face.

Anyone with information regarding this event can contact the Elk Valley Regional RCMP at 250-425-6233 or report their information anonymously through BC Crime Stoppers. Please refer to file 2024-1972. Our investigation is ongoing.
