Sandbag Filling Station at Fernie’s operations yard
With up to 100mm of rain forecast for the Elk Valley near Fernie, the River Forecast Centre has issued a High Streamflow Advisory for the Elk River and lower elevation and valley bottom tributaries in our region.
The City of Fernie has set up a self-fill sandbag station next to the city’s Operations Yard on Railway Avenue for anyone who lives in areas that are prone to flooding. The sandbag station has sand and bags, just bring your own shovel and gloves.
The heavy rain is expected to continue through Thursday morning (Dec. 7).
Please remember that fast-flowing rivers pose increased risk to life safety, and to be alert to road conditions.
