Witness leads to B&E arrest in Fernie
Early in the morning of Saturday, March 17, an alert resident of downtown Fernie observed a female break and enter a local hair salon business on 2nd Avenue.
The female was observed to take numerous items from the business and then load them into a truck. The alert witness called 9-1-1 and was able to provide an excellent description of the getaway vehicle, which was quickly spotted by the responding Elk Valley RCMP officers.
The lone female was soon apprehended and the stolen merchandise was located in the truck. Further investigation actually revealed the female had broken into two adjacent businesses and police expect to be recommending two counts of break and enter to be sworn against the Fernie resident, reported Cpl. Dan Hay of the Elk Valley RCMP Detachment.
The female was released from police custody promising to appear in court at a future date.
“The Elk Valley RCMP very much appreciate the witness reporting the crime in progress and utilizing the 9-1-1 system which allowed for a speedy response and suspect apprehension,” Cpl. Hay said.
