Holiday season can be hot for scam activity
Residents of the Elk Valley are not the only ones trying to make a few extra dollars this holiday season.
Frauds and scams that typically target everyone from your average consumer to large corporations are still out there over the holidays; some more then others, reported Cpl. Robert Wright, Acting Ops NCO for Elk Valley RCMP Detachment.
âWhat’s typically known as the âCar Wrapping Scamâ seems to be making the rounds again in the western provinces. This is where an individual is asked to advertise for various companies by wrapping their car in logos or other company advertisements,â Wright explained.
And as we creep toward tax season, anyone who is contacted by someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)Â for the purpose of issuing a refund or collecting back taxes should contact the CRA through their national phone number to verify and confirm the information, he added.
