Motorcyclist killed by falling tree
A motorcyclist was killed on Highway 3 yesterday at about 1:50 p.m. near Sparwood when a tree fell across the highway, swiping him from his bike.
The motorcycle rider was reportedly initiating a pass at the onset of a passing lane when a deciduous tree fell across the highway.
The highway was closed for almost four hours after the incident, which is being investigated by BC Coroners Services, East Kootenay Traffic Services RCMP and Elk Valley RCMP.
“The motorcyclist was hit by that tree, was knocked off his bike and he subsequently succumbed to his injures as result of this collision,” reported Cst. Mike Halskov of BC RCMP Traffic Services.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
