Road resurfacing work awarded
Users of Highway 3 will enjoy a safer, smoother journey thanks to a road resurfacing project that will soon be underway between Fernie and the Hosmer passing lanes, as well as on local side roads.
A $3-million contract has been awarded to Okanagan Aggregates Ltd. of Armstrong to resurface approximately 15 kilometres of Highway 3 between the East Fernie Bridge and the Hosmer passing lanes. Rutted areas on the Fernie arterial between the West Fernie and East Fernie bridges will be addressed, and some shoulder repairs will be carried out west of Fernie.
The project will also include resurfacing five kilometres of side roads using recycled asphalt pavement. The side roads being resurfaced are Martha Road, Robinson Road, Hill Road, Givern Road, Cunliffe Road, Olivia Road, Brickers Road and the Olsen Rest Area.
âHighway 3 is important from a local and commercial standpoint, and these improvements will ensure we can move people and goods more smoothly,â says Bill Bennett, Kootenay East MLA. âThis investment is good for traveler safety and good for our economy.â
This project is part of B.C. on the Move, the B.C. governmentâs 10-year plan for the improvement of the provinceâs transportation network.
