Fatality incident at Fording River Operations

Teck Resources this afternoon reported a fatality incident at its Fording River Operations at 8:40 a.m. today (April 9) .

USW 9346 noted earlier today on social media that a contractor has been killed at the Fording River Operations tailings pond.

Teck has mobilized its emergency response teams and appropriate authorities, B.C. Ministry of Energy, Mines & Petroleum Resources and the RCMP has also been notified.

“No other employees are involved and there is no ongoing safety or environmental risk. Additional information will be released as it becomes available,” reported Nic Milligen, Teck’s Manager Social Responsibility.

“We wish to extend our most sincere condolences to the employee’s family, friends and colleagues. We are all deeply saddened by this tragic incident and loss of life,” said Robin Sheremeta, Senior Vice President, Coal.

Fording River Operations is located east of Elkford.
