BC Wildfire atop fire near Sparwood
The BC Wildfire Service is responding to the suspected-lightning caused Cummings Creek wildfire, located approximately five kilometres west of the District of Sparwood and is estimated to be one hectare.
It is exhibiting signs of a low vigour surface fire with a slow rate of spread. The steep and inaccessible terrain poses a significant safety risk to both ground crews and aviation resources at this time. Further assessment of this fire is ongoing, BC Wildfire Service reported.
“With the downturn in weather forecasted, it is not expected to grow significantly in the coming days. While visible from Sparwood, surrounding communities and Highway 43, this fire does not currently pose a threat to structures.”
