Elk Valley RCMP seek witnesses to crash near Sparwood
Elk Valley RCMP is seeking witnesses to a single-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon near Sparwood, which resulted in one person being airlifted to hospital in Calgary with serious injuries.
On March 17, at approximately 2 p.m., Elk Valley Regional RCMP was advised by BC Ambulance of a single vehicle accident about three kilometres south of Sparwood.
Officers attended and located a grey Honda Civic off road and three people associated to the vehicle as well as other witnesses helping the driver and passengers.
Witnesses identified the driver as a person outside the vehicle. The driver showed signs of impairment, so an impaired causing bodily harm investigation was initiated, reported S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
The driver provided breath samples to a qualified technician at the Sparwood Detachment which exceeded the legal limit.
BC Ambulance and Sparwood Fire Department continued to assist the other passengers, including one who was trapped in the vehicle with significant injuries
“This person was airlifted to Calgary Foothills Hospital for further treatment. Once safe, the driver and other passenger were released on their own recognizance.
“The vehicle involved was towed back to the Sparwood Detachment for further investigation,” S/Sgt. Nielsen reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
