Society asking: is Coal Miner Days going to disappear?
The Sparwood Coal Miner Days Society is asking community residents on social media: ‘Is Coal Miner Days going to be a memory and disappear completely?’
With a great need for more volunteer help to stage Sparwood’s biggest event of the year, the society is holding a meeting at the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Feb. 13 (7 p.m.) to determine if Coal Miner Days should continue.
“Ideas are great but if there is no one to step up and implement them the largest event in the Elk Valley is in jeopardy of going away forever,” the society stated.
“Yes, we are all busy; however, there has been a select group of very dedicated people who have worked tirelessly for years to ensure its success, they are the busiest people you have ever met… the vision has been to showcase the community, to highlight the great things that Sparwood has to offer by providing a venue for non-profits, businesses and the district by allowing them to step into the spotlight.
“Thousands of people come out to celebrate together through sports, activities, food, music, beverages, fireworks and fun.”
The society is asking Sparwood residents: “show us what you want; come to the meeting Feb 13, 7 p.m. at the chamber.” It also asks residents to view and share the video below.

“This meeting will decide if Coal Miner Days happens again or not! We want you… not just your ideas,” the society concluded.
