The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the July 2 District of Sparwood council meeting.

HEARINGS

Development Variance Permit for 1341 Cherrywood Boulevard

An Informal Public Hearing was held to hear community feedback regarding a development variance permit for 1341 Cherrywood Boulevard. Staff received an application to vary section 10.5.4.B of the District’s Zoning Bylaw 264, 1981 as amended, to increase the maximum a deck can project into a rear yard from not more than 1.22m to 3.51m, a difference of 2.29m, to construct a new 3.51 x 3.51m (11.5 x 11.5ft) deck off the back of the house.

The development variance permit was later issued by council.

Development Variance Permit for 405 White Birch Crescent

An Informal Public Hearing was held to hear community feedback regarding a development variance permit for the 405 White Birch Crescent. Staff received an application to vary Section 3.1.2.C.i of Zoning Bylaw 264, 1981, as amended, to decrease the minimum building and structure side yard from 1.52m to 0.91m, a difference of 0.61m, to build a detached garage.

The development variance permit was later issued by council.

Temporary Use Permit for Whiskey Jack Resort

An Informal Public Hearing was held to hear community feedback regarding a temporary use permit for Whiskey Jack Resort. Staff received an application to conduct gravel crushing in the Whiskey Jack development area.

The temporary use permit was later issued by council.

BYLAWS

OCP & Zoning Amendment Bylaws for Westwood

The OCP & Zoning amendment bylaws to allow for an increase in multi-family residential development at 1500 Sparwood Heights Drive (also known as Westwood), was adopted by council.

Zoning Amendment Bylaw for 1311 Wildwood Drive

The Zoning Amendment Bylaw for 1311 Wildwood Drive to create a new zone, Medium Density Residential with suites (R-2b) which would allow secondary suites in two-family dwellings, amend the definition of secondary suites, and change the zone of 1311 Wildwood Drive to R-2b was defeated by council.

BUSINESS

Wildlife Attractant Tree Grant Program Policy

Council approved changes to this policy (including a name change) to include the removal and replacement of wildlife attractant trees and increase the grant amounts to aim to create a safer, more sustainable community by reducing wildlife-related risks.
