Sparwood ready for 50th birthday
The District of Sparwood is celebrating half a century of incorporation tomorrow (Thursday, May 12).
Starting at 11:30 a.m. and running to 1:30 p.m. there will be an anniversary party and ceremonial cake cutting at the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce and Titan Park.
A community photo will be taken along with a free barbecue and more.
Starting at 6 p.m. at the Frank J. Mitchell Elementary School gymnasium will be a Sock Hop Dance and fun family event.
Music will be provided by T&L Dynamic Sound, with food and drink available for purchase and prizes for 1960-style best-dressed sock-hoppers and for best dancers. The dance runs to 9 p.m. and everyone is welcome.
There is also going to be a 50th anniversary dinner on June 10 (5 to 10:30 p.m.), including a dinner and dance and fireworks at 11:15 p.m. at the Sparwood Leisure Centre.
Tickets ($35) are available at the Sparwood Leisure Centre and Sparwood Chamber of Commerce.
