For the average person, the 50^th birthday is a landmark event – a milestone and, for some, a transition zone.

For a municipality, 50 years is just getting started, as District of Sparwood Mayor Cal McDougall stated during a community celebration in Titan Park this afternoon.

All the school children in Sparwood, several hundred residents in total, gathered to mark the district’s 50^th anniversary, forming a giant 50 in front of the Titan truck for an aerial photograph.

Despite the day being cool and extremely soggy, spirits were not dampened as many availed themselves to the available barbecue and cake.
