Team Canada members mentor local youth
On Saturday, October 28, 40 local youth took to the ice at the Sparwood Arena to learn from Canadian men’s Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic hockey team Head Coach Willie Desjardins and Olympic gold medalists, Haley Irwin and Sami Jo Small at the fourth annual Teck Coaching Series.
The Teck Coaching Series is held in partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee and brings Olympic-level expertise to coaches and athletes in communities near Teck’s operations.
Along with the on-ice hockey clinic for local youth, this year Sparwood-area hockey coaches participated in a coaching workshop, which included a National Coach Mentoring Program geared towards technical skill development led by BC Hockey.
“The Teck Coaching Series is a community event that aims to inspire and energize local youth and coaches,” said Nic Milligan, Manager, Social Responsibility, Teck. “The enthusiastic participation in this event reflects the strong community spirit here in Sparwood and we thank our Team Canada partners and all those who attended.”
