Trout deaths prompt precautionary measures
Teck Resources Limited reports it is taking precautionary measures following recent fish mortality incidents near its Line Creek Operations.
Since October 8, 26 deceased Westslope cutthroat trout have been found in a section of Dry Creek, approximately 600 metres downstream of a water management construction project at Teck’s Line Creek Operations.
“The mortality is believed to be due to a temporary drop in water level in the creek associated with the construction work,” said Norman Fraser, Lead Indigenous Initiatives with Teck Resources Limited.
“We take this incident very seriously and have reported it to regulators and the Ktunaxa Nation Council and have launched an internal investigation to identify measures to prevent a reoccurrence.
“Precautionary measures have been put in place to restore, manage and monitor flow of this section of Dry Creek for the duration of the project,” Fraser told e-KNOW.
