Winter storm warning for Elk Valley

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Elk Valley, on top of the snowfall alert issued yesterday.

Further snowfall amounts up to 30 cm is expected near Fernie and area, with hazardous winter conditions expected today through to tomorrow (Jan. 10).

A strong low pressure system moving through B.C. will continue to give heavy snow today and tonight.

Further snowfall amounts up to 30 cm is expected near Fernie by Wednesday morning.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Meanwhile, the snowfall warning covering Cranbrook Kimberley and Columbia Valley areas has ended, Environment Canada said.

Further snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm is expected for Kootenay Pass and another 10 cm for Rogers Pass.
