Another great First Saturday in Kimberley
By Chris Newel
If you haven’t been to a First Saturday in Kimberley you are missing out.
Organized by the Kimberley Arts Council, they happen on the first Saturday of the month from May to October. There is often a theme, but the main goal is to have fun. Various events are going on in Platzl and vendors often have specials. Local talented musicians perform in the gazebo.
Sept. 3 was the Mountain Plooza Photo Scavenger hunt. Organized by Liz Adler and Jay Toner of Big Magic Design, 44 participants searched the Platzl for targets. Prizes were over $300 worth of merchandise from Platzl merchants.
James Archibald (Archie) and Lucas Roach organized the Platzl Paddle Battle hosted by Big Magic Design. Twenty-three players battled it out raising $230 for the Disadvantaged Slider Program at Kimberley Alpine Resort. Owen Perrin was the overall winner.
For October’s First Saturday, – Kimberley celebrates it’s Bavarian past with Oktoberfest.
Back are the Kids Kazoo Parade, Bavarian style entertainment and activities. New this year, a craft beer festival in the Platzl organized by Overtime Beer Works. Rocktoberfest will continue into the evening, this time in the Platzl featuring local entertainment and bratwurst and pretzels. The Elk Club will again host Rockoberfest Extended starting at .9am with a live band.
