Dark Ages come to life at Medieval Festival
Kimberley slipped backwards in time 1,000 or so years last weekend during the second annual Kimberley City Bakery Medieval Festival.
Vikings a-plenty, knights, medieval folk of all variety and barbarians filled Coronation Park Ball with a village depicting various medieval ways of life.
Things got rolling on July 9 with a parade down Wallinger Street and into the Platzl, led by the Kimberley Pipe Band. Entertainment and a carnival atmosphere filled the Platzl and over at Coronation, things got truly medieval with Viking fighting demonstrations, a King’s Tournament (to the death no less) and a crazed Kimberley kids versus the Vikings pool noodle battle showed the mettle of the locals.
As one of the Vikings said with a chuckle prior to the first of two attacks, “This really lets you see how vicious your kids are!”
Indeed, the savage thwapping whap down of the band of Vikings from Calgary was something to behold.
The fun rolled on all Saturday and concluded Sunday.
If you missed this venture into the Dark Ages, you can always head to Nakusp Medieval Days on July 23 and 24.
