Dynamiters Hughes commits to UVic Vikes
Nick Hughes of the Kimberley Dynamiters will play in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League for the University of Victoria Vikes next fall.
Hughes was second among Dynamiters blueliners in points with 35 in 41 games during the regular Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) season.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to continue my career at the University of Victoria,” said Hughes, a Calgary native. “My leadership abilities and hockey IQ improved this season. Being an alternate captain helped me improve my leadership skills and I worked on my hockey IQ through our on and off-ice training and feedback provided.”
Hughes said he’s benefited greatly from his time with the Dynamiters through the support of staff, volunteers, community, and his teammates.
“The coaching staff has had confidence in my game, which allowed me to play my best,” said Hughes.
“The Dynamiters have a great culture created through their history of success, the coaching staff, committed volunteers, the best fans in the league, and especially my teammates.”
Hughes debuted in the league in 2022-23 with the Columbia Valley Rockies and Sicamous Eagles. The NWCAA Stamps U18AA/Calgary Flames U18AAA product played in 118 regular season games, registering 96 points.
