KORE hosting second Outdoor Rec-Tech Summit

The Kootenay Outdoor Recreation Enterprise (KORE) is hosting the second annual Outdoor Rec-Tech Summit, Western Canada’s only conference dedicated to the outdoor recreational technology manufacturing and product design sector.

The summit will be held October 11-13, at the Kimberley Alpine Resort’s Conference Centre and there will be an optional “stay and play” day on the 14th for attendees who would like to explore the region and recreate.

Industry thought leaders and speakers from around North America will be giving presentations throughout the event and residents of B.C., Alberta, the Pacific Northwest, and Western States who are interested in outdoor equipment are invited to attend.

Likewise, product designers, economic development practitioners, government professionals, academics, and investors will all find it valuable to attend the summit. Themes to be explored include sustainability and the circular economy, reshoring manufacturing, e-rec technology, academic and industry collaboration, and supply chain security among others.

“KORE craft outdoor gear makers, a first in Canada, focused on innovation and collaboration, is fastly making the Kootenay Region the hub of the Outdoor Gear Industry in Canada,” said co-founder, Matt Mosteller.

“This is a vital example of rural economic development that fits the incredible natural landscapes of the Kootenay Region, the variety of outdoor recreation pursuits the locals enjoy, and the interest in creating sustainable, environmentally friendly economic opportunities,” added Mosteller.

The inaugural Summit in 2022 sold out and this year the same is expected to happen thanks in part to a roster of speakers that includes a former National team athlete, a professional mountaineer, inventors, engineers, professors, designers, and a senior buyer for Mountain Equipment Company.

British Columbia has an incredible opportunity to develop an Outdoor Recreation Economy. KORE and its members are showing that both urban and rural areas can benefit from Outdoor Recreation Economy, and it is not only a significant economic engine, but an economic driver that comes with significant physical and mental health benefits.
