 Nitros one win away from third KIJHL title

It comes down to one final game.

The Kimberley Dynamiters and Princeton Posse play game seven of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) finals (Teck Cup) this evening at the Princeton and District Arena.

Kimberley is one win away from earnings its third Teck Cup, while Princeton is vying for its first ever.

The Nitros made it to game seven on the strength of a dominating performance from Cam Reid April 8 in front of 1,652 fans at the Kimberley Civic Centre.

Reid notched two goals, including the winner, along with two assists in a 5-2 win against the Posse to force Game 7 for the Teck Cup.

Matt Fleet stopped 27 shots for the win.

The Dynamiters opened the scoring 42 seconds into the game on a goal by Campbell McLean with his 11th.

The Posse tied it on the power-play thanks to Tyson Horiachka. Justin Sommer and Reid scored to give the Dynamiters a 3-1 lead after the opening period.

In the second period, Tanner Funk closed the gap to 3-2, but the Dynamiters replied with two goals in the final four minutes by Reid and Jayden Kostiuk.

The winner of the Teck Cup advances to the Cyclone Taylor Cup in Revelstoke April 13-16.

The B.C. junior B championship features league winners from the KIJHL, the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) and the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL)

The KIJHL’s Revelstoke Grizzlies host the tourney because they were the 2022 Cyclone Taylor Cup champs.
